When? 30 October 2018 from 18:00 to 22:00
Where. Opero Art Nouveau House; Salvátorská 8
In 2016, eight well-known people decided to combine their passion for investment, good company and emphasis on ethical, sustainable and profitable projects. As a result, in the autumn of the same year, the Venture Club was created. Since then, we have managed to expand our ranks to 96 members and together we have invested more than 148 million crowns in various projects at home and abroad. In the meantime, we have also managed to organise dozens of successful events, both investment and purely social. It is not only because of all this that we have decided to celebrate our 2nd anniversary. The date has been set for the end of October – 30th from 18:00 – 22:00. And where? We chose for this occasion the premises of the Art Nouveau house in Salvátorská Street – a place that today bears the name Opero.
Why Opero?
The Art Nouveau house was built in 1908 – 1911 by architect Otakar Novotný for the owner of the printing company Jan Štenc. The printer liked the concept designed by Otakar Novotný, which combined both the residential and industrial parts of the building. Thanks to this, the social and working parts of Štenec’s life were combined in one house. Works by leading Czech artists were displayed here, and it was common to meet artists such as Max Švabinský, Jan Štursa or Jan Kotěra at the Štenc family. The main area in which the printing studio was engaged was the production of plates for books, photographic documentation of works of art from architecture to plans and drawings, and advertising photography using the American retouch technique. The company also took care of archiving artwork, and during the years 1908 to 1947 they collected more than 70,000 glass negatives. The collection today is one of the largest historical collections of its kind.
The modern history of the house in Salvátorská Street began in 2016, when three men – Pavel Přikryl, Pavel Bouška and Luboš Černý – decided to return the house to its former glory. The house underwent a sensitive reconstruction, the aim of which was to return the building to its original historical appearance while meeting the requirements for functionality and modern technical equipment. In doing so, they created a place to work and meet that is currently unparalleled in the centre of Prague. Thanks to them, in the very heart of the old town, just a few steps away from the Old Town Square, a space was created where it is possible to sit down and work in peace or just have a coffee, and where modern design shakes hands with Art Nouveau architecture.
Come celebrate our anniversary with us
