Statistics That Give You a Competitive Advantage

We invite you to a lecture by Jaroslav Sixta from the Czech Statistical Office, prepared especially for us.

Figures on inflation, economic performance, or market developments are published daily.
Markets react to them immediately. The media interpret them in their own way.

But what do those figures really mean?

👉 How official economic data are created – and where their limits lie
👉 Why it is not enough to read the figures “as they are” (e.g. seasonal effects and distortions)
👉 How institutions such as the central bank or the state work with data
👉 What an investor or someone managing a company can take away from them
👉 Why trust in data is crucial today – and where it can break down

Jaroslav Sixta is directly involved in the creation of these data.
At the Czech Statistical Office, he is responsible for oversight of statistics, their quality, and interpretation. Among other things, he has been involved in introducing new methods, the use of machine learning in statistics, and the reconstruction of historical GDP data.

This will not be a theoretical lecture.
Rather, it will be a look behind the scenes of the figures that influence the decision-making of the state, markets, and companies.

Jaroslav Sixta works at the Czech Statistical Office (CZSO), where he has long focused on statistics and working with data. In his professional work, he concentrates on making statistical information accessible and understandable, and on its practical use. In his lectures, he combines an expert perspective with specific examples from practice.

Professionally, he focuses on macroeconomic statistics and national accounts. He collaborated on the implementation of the ESA 1995 and ESA 2010 national accounts standards, first in the area of non-financial assets and service life models, and subsequently on the issue of input-output tables. At the same time, he also worked on the capitalization of intangible assets under the ESA 2010 standard.  In addition to his work at the CZSO, he is also engaged in scientific and teaching activities in the field of economic statistics and national accounts at the University of Economics in Prague. There, he collaborated on estimates of the gross domestic product of the Czech Republic for the years 1970 to 1989. He is the author or co-author of two textbooks and more than a hundred scientific and professional articles, conference papers, and research studies.

We look forward to meeting you
