Prague, 9 November 2022 – Czech startup PetExpert, which deals with commercial insurance for dogs and cats, has been acquired by US company Trupanion. The company will include the project in its global plans to provide these services. For the Venture Club investors, united through Venture Club Invest s.r.o., who invested in PetExpert in its early days, this is one of the most successful projects ever. The American Trupanion bought 100% of the shares in the insurance company PetExpert.
Trupanion, the US market leader in the pet insurance industry, has bought 100% of the shares in PetExpert, a Czech dog and cat insurance project. It intends to integrate it into its global strategic plans in this sector. The Venture Club, which helped PetExpert in the initial stages, held a 40% stake in the insurer. The divestment of the stake was one of the club’s best deals ever and capped a mutual five-year collaboration.
Venture Club’s Vice Chairman Hanus Brychta says of the deal: “We have been with PetExpert virtually all the way from its initial startup phase in 2017 until now, when a large multinational player took it over. The project has been developing dynamically throughout the whole time and has been more successful thanks to the advice that Venture Club has provided to the project throughout. For example, there have been consultations on the design of the website, cooperation with breeders and cynological associations, employment issues and third-party sales channels. We also assisted with the actual sale of the company. Personally, I consider this project to be one of Venture Club’s best investments.”
The acquisition of PetExpert quickly expands Trupanion’s European footprint into the Czech Republic and Slovakia. By all expectations, the Belgian and Polish markets will follow in the coming months.
